Dear friends of Campfire in the Heart,

As we arrive at this new(ish) year, we come with so many hopes, so much longing. We are hoping Campfire’s offerings might bring some sustenance into these times, so challenging for many. We hear that as well as the events on offer, weekly or as part of the retreat program, Campfire seems to hold a symbolic meaning for some of its many friends over the years, a sense that it’s good that it’s here, “we need it to go on”.

Singer/songwriter Nick Cave’s words resonate … “In Faith, Hope and Carnage I wrote ‘hope is optimism with a broken heart’. This means that hope has an earned understanding of the sorrowful or corrupted nature of things, yet it rises to attend
to the world even still. We understand that our demoralisation becomes the most serious impediment to bettering the world. In its active form, hope is a supreme gesture of love, a radical and audacious duty, whereas despair is a stagnant
rejection of life itself. Hope becomes the energy of change.” Fr Laurence too is counselling hope in these times as a way to build bridges where dividedness seems to exist.

Encouraging words, we are grateful for nudges in this direction and look forward to continuing the journey with you, hoping there is something in our offerings you can engage with …
