Celia created the 40 Day Bible Study, ‘Into the Desert’, (formerly an App) in association with the Anglican Board of Mission taking us on a pilgrimage through the readings of Lent, in parallel with (ancient and modern) desert mothers and fathers, her photography and her life journey in Central Australia. In a recent App, ‘Deep calls to Deep’, Celia follows a personal path of transition from her professional life to a daily journey with God which calls her to the depths.
The retreat brings together the breadth of Celia’s journey with God through Scripture, theology, art and her love for the Centre, brought together in the rhythm of our life of prayer and reflection at Campfire in the Heart
Wide Skies and Open Hearts Retreat led by Sue and David Woods with Celia Kemp
‘Wide Skies and Open Hearts’ Retreats are led by Sue and David Woods, who have a long lived experience of community and prayer and connection with the Arrernte people of Central Australia. They have lived in Alice Springs for the past 18 years.
The Retreats are conducted over 5 days, beginning at 4:00pm on a Sunday and concluding after breakfast and an early Labyrinth Walk on Saturday.
Wide Skies and Open Hearts Retreats connect the Gospel Narratives our own story within the Central Australian Landscape and it’s People.
The Gospel Narrative for each day links the elemental themes of Land, Water, Incarnation, Fire and Air.
Over the week, participants are nurtured in a medley of prayer practices. Each day begins with a brief Liturgical Morning Prayer that introduces theme for the day. After breakfast, a time of Christian Meditation leads into Imaginative Experience of the Gospels followed by Personal Journaling. At midday retreatants have the opportunity to share a brief response to their journeying through the morning.
There is a rest period after lunch.
At 3:00pm we visit a special aspect of the landscape within a 15 minute drive of Campfire in the Heart, to explore, to appreciate the Arrernte
Country… to sit, to walk, to draw, write or dance with the landscape.
The day concludes with Night Prayer and an introduction to the Awareness Examen reflecting on Jesus’ presence within our day.
