Much has changed in our world over the past 6 months. Beginning with Bushfires in Western and South Eastern in January and now COVID 19. We are all deeply affected. How do we live this new time? How do we grow into the change that is being offered to us, or demanded of us? In the Northern Territory we have been in lock down like everyone else, but thankfully, cases in the NT have been quickly dealt with and there has been no community transmission. However, Aboriginal communities remain the most vulnerable, and opening the borders does bring some anxiety as the second wave begins to impact on people down south.
We are not offering ‘live-in’ retreats this year because of the uncertainty of travel throughout Australia. Celia facilitated an Into the Desert Retreat in May with 9 retreatants attending through Zoom. It was very successful … beyond our hopes and dreams. We are offering our Wide Skies and Open Hearts Retreat by Zoom in August. See below.
Wide Skies and Open Hearts Retreat
led by Sue and David Woods and Celia Kemp
The Retreat is conducted over 5 full days, with a one hour Introductory Session at 7.30 pm (EST) on the Sunday 9th. The full five day Retreat starts from Monday 10th to Friday 14th, beginning at 8.00 am each morning.
The Retreat connects the Gospel Narratives with our own story and the elemental themes of Land, Water, Incarnation, Fire and Air.
Over the week, participants are introduced to a medley of prayer practices. Each day begins with a brief Liturgical Morning Prayer introducing theme for the day. After breakfast, a time of Christian Meditation leads into Imaginative Experience of the Gospels followed by Personal Journaling. At midday retreatants have the opportunity to share a brief response to their journeying through the morning. Apart from the personal journalling, all these sessions are on Zoom.
There is no Zoom contact during the afternoon, but retreatants are invited to connect with a space in their own environment that relates to the theme of the day. You are invited to sit, walk, draw, write or dance with the theme of the day.
Each day concludes with Night Prayer at 7.30 pm reflecting on Jesus’ presence within our day.
